Canmore Retail Gap Analysis and Light Industrial & Commercial Land Review
The Town of Canmore, nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, commissioned the FBM planning group to produce a Retail Gap Analysis and Light Industrial & Commercial Land Review. The project provides council, municipal staff, and the business community with insights into the town’s economic health and prospects to enable strategic, responsible planning.
Our analysis was multi-faceted, taking into account the many unique attributes of this mountain town. The core of the study involved extensive on-site fieldwork and GIS analysis to provide inventories of retail, office, and industrial businesses, as well as vacant units and properties. Using the Trade Area’s demographic projections, we forecasted future demand for these three land uses and created an Action Plan with suggested strategic target businesses and recommendations for how land types can be allocated throughout the town’s commercial and industrial nodes.
The project took advantage of our team’s specialized expertise in market opportunity analysis while leveraging our cross-Canada connections to provide a product that is informed at both a local and national scale.
