Highway 104 Rest Stations

Located on both the eastbound and westbound sides of Highway 104, the main artery of the Trans-Canada Highway across the province, the Rest Stations offer essential amenities for travelers. The design draws inspiration from Nova Scotia’s historic train stations—once iconic gateways between provinces. These stations reinterpret the architecture, offering a contemporary interstitial space for those entering and moving through Nova Scotia by road. The materiality is connected to the character of Nova Scotia’s land and seascapes. Together, these elements ground the buildings in their setting, creating an immediate and familiar sense of place. Completed with picnic tables, benches, pet relief areas, and a walking loop around the buildings, the Rest Stations welcome travelers to awaken the senses and orient themselves in the landscape.
